EUROMIND - Creating an innovative European Open Maritime Industry through facilitating the integration of standards into new business practices and services – is a project of the European 6th Framework INNOVATION programme ‘Standards in support of innovative business solutions’, which is funded by the European Commission, DG Enterprise & Industry.

The objective of EUROMIND is to improve European shipbuilding supply chain collaboration by connecting digital systems via open standards and raise awareness for the need of integrating open standards into new business practices and services in the maritime industry.

More detailed definition of EUROMIND is as follows:

European Shipbuilding is considered:
•    Irrespective of type of ship (yacht, naval, merchant, special);
•    Target group is shipyards & subcontractors & suppliers & professional service providers;
•    Including interaction with client (ship owner) and authorities.
Supply Chain Collaboration:
•    The entire process of selling, developing, building, commissioning and maintaining a ship;
•    Process carried out by a (collaborative) team of companies.
Connecting Digital Systems:
•    Project is limited to the aspect of digital systems;
•    Does not cover other aspects of supply chain collaboration (e.g. project management, contract management, knowledge management);
•    Connecting refers to “information exchange”, not hardware connectivity such as networks,.
Open Standards:
•    Standards that are publicly available (not necessarily free of charge);
•    Standards that have the potential to become publicly available.

This report has been prepared to provide a unified and consistently presented picture of the horizontal and vertical best practice in shipbuilding and for innovative business process development and the corresponding needs relative to the standards. This regards further development, harmonisation, access mechanisms, implementation and awareness creation/education.
